Homemade Pizza
I’m all about ‘fuss free’ food that’s quick and simple to prepare, and delicious to eat. Enjoyed ‘at your table’ of course!
Homemade pizza fits the bill perfectly….even more so when you have bases in the freezer ready to go.
As an aside, my theory on pizza bases is…if you love making these from scratch, go for gold. However, if this is the factor that STOPS you making homemade (#toohardbasket) and you get takeaways instead, then hold up. Buy some pre made bases and give homemade pizza a whirl. Your kids, friends and family will thank you. Trust me, they’re so simple and delicious.
Below are some topping combos that we love. The kids choose their own. You can too. Anything goes, really. They can be as simple or as varied as you like. Most importantly, have fun making them!
Pizza Base
Pizza bases (bought or homemade, you choose…I keep a supply of thin, turkish pizza bases from supermarket, in our freezer which defrost in minutes on the bench).
Sauce for base (we use Gran’s (my Mums) homemade plum sauce mostly, but tomato paste or pesto is also yum).
Topping Combos
Salami, spinach, olives, grated cheese
Salami, grated cheese
Salami, sliced tomato, grated cheese
Pre cooked chicken, capsicum finely sliced, spinach, olives, grated cheese
Pre cooked chicken, sliced mushrooms, spinach, grated cheese and/or feta
Pre cooked chicken, capsicum, spinach, cashew nuts, grated cheese
Spinach, mushroom, capsicum, Haloumi cheese
Other topping suggestions to mix and match/pick and choose from: leftover roast meat, blue cheese, hazelnuts/almonds, ricotta cheese, grated/sliced courgette, fresh rocket (placed on top at once cooked), chorizo, broccoli (finley sliced)..the options are endless. Experiment with combos from your fridge!
Method
Place pizza bases and topping ingredients out on bench.
Grab an oven tray per pizza, lay baking paper across each and place a pizza base on each.
Spread sauce of choice across bases with the back of a spoon (kids love this task).
Add toppings of choice (to keep the pizza together I generally load them up in the order written above, however anything goes with the kids and this works too!)
Add dried herbs (ie oregano) and cracked pepper, to taste (optional)
Place in pre heated oven (approx 180 - 200 degrees celsius) for approx 10 - 15 minutes or until cheese has melted and bases slightly crisped.
Add freshly chopped herbs and/or rocket once cooked (optional)
Cut. Serve. Enjoy! #atyourtable
